Frequently Asked Questions
Is it safe for me to use my credit card on your site?
Yes, we accept credit cards, e-checks, and debit cards through Paypal. When you get ready to pay you will be directed to the Paypal site to complete the transaction.
That is a lot of money for a birdhouse! Will it last long?
The majority of our birdhouses are made of western red cedar. Cedar weathers beautifully and will deter squirrels. Some are yellow pine. All of the painted houses are coated with an oil base paint to withinstand the weather. The gourd houses are coated with a preservative inside and out. None of the materials used to build or coat the birdhouses are toxic to the birds.
Are the birdhouses ok to use outside?
Even though you will be tempted to decorate your home with some of these beautiful houses, they are made to go in your yard so that the birds can enjoy them.
If I order, how soon will I receive my birdhouse?
Most orders will ship within 7 to 14 business days depending on your location.
Can I ship to a different address?
Yes. If you are placing an order for both you and someone with another address, you must place two seperate orders.
Will my order arrive in a single shipment?
Your order may be shipped from separate locations. As a result of this, you may receive seperate shipments at different times.
Do you offer wireless cameras?
No. For the simple reason that "wireless" cameras aren't totally wireless. While they will transmit audio and video signals to a television, you still have to get power to the camera. So, you would still have to run a power cable out to your nest box. Plus, wireless cameras are about three times more expensive than the Night Owl we now offer.
Why don't you have a color camera for use inside nest boxes?
Quite simply, too much light is needed. Our Night Owl only needs about 0.5 lux (one-half candle power) to operate. The small openings and vent slots of most birdhouses let in more than enough light for the Night Owl. Color cameras, on the other hand, need 3-5 lux of light to operate, which is far more than can enter through a small entrance hole. We did, by the way, find a small camera that had incadescent lights, which did give a color image. But, the light greatly confused the birds late at night, so we quickly abandoned that idea.
Can I extend the Red Robin color cam beyond its 60 feet of cable?
Yes. It's easy. In fact the manufacturer said they've extended it to 1,000 feet with no loss of signal.
Can I extend the Night Owl beyond its 100 feet of cable?
Yes, the Night Owl can be extended out at least 1000 feet, by daisy-chaining a series of our 100' extension cables, which we offer for sale.
How difficult is it to hook up the Night Owl and Red Robin cams?
It really couldn't be easier. Simply hang the birdhouse, or attach the Red Robin to a post overlooking a feeder; run the cable into the house, plug the audio and video plugs into the appropriate RCA jacks (video-in and audio-in) in the back of the TV. Plug in the power and sit back and enjoy.
